Review of Van Alstyne, Texas

the people/churches
Star Rating - 11/1/2010
I moved to Van Alstyne to retire and because of the churches. I went to service to a church that was of my beleifs and the people were standoffish and cold, I tried all 18 other churches in the area and it was the same thing. Van Alstyne's people are a closed community and if you are not from around there you are shunned. I bought and paid for my house and cannot now get what I paid, so I am stuck in this pergatory. I get away as much as possible as the people here are not nice.

Times they are a changing in Van Alstyne. The "core"of the community is very closed and they have a few families that have been here a long time. What is happening is that there is very explosive growth in housing and infrastructure in Van Alstyne. Folks moving in are generally commuters from Dallas and are generally wealthier and more educated than the "core". Being a small town the "human" growth will more than likely surpass the original inhabitants in pretty short order. So when you are at that next PTA meeting with a snarky bad tempered better than you"mother" glaring at you just ignore her. Look around and you will realize there are a lot of new interlopers for her to give the stink eye too. Talk to the new fresh faces and make friends w them. That first Christmas party vote where the "core" gets out voted will be priceless. PS: Despite the post above I have met a few of the older inhabitants and made decent "acquaintances" with them. I'm not sure but I think I have at least one friend now. We like this little town and only look forward to it getting better.
